DRIFTWOOD CH. 8 P. 11-13
Okay, apparently I’ve been a bit lazy with posting the updates on here.

Turret and Snout photoreport
Last night we did the magical Tagtool session at the Freie Internationale Tankstelle, right next door from us. We had been passing by the place every day for years, curiously checking out what was going on there and trying to think of something nice we could do there. Then Ilan got the idea of doing a Tagtool collaboration, where I would draw images and Ilan would move them around. We had only collaborated on something once before, and since a bit of drama and conflict and schlepping around huge projectors is always good for maintaining a healthy relationship, I said why not.
So after living here for four and two years respectively, we finally said hello to Dida who uses the old little gas station as a studio and art space, and he thought our idea sounded fun.
We actually don’t have any documentation of the main show, where we told the story about the wee wild piggy who finds a tank in the forest, set to the tone of all the songs I could find about pigs and/or tanks that I liked.
We do have some photos from the second show we did, though, which was entirely improvised, and even more fun, anyway.
The following photos were graciously made by the very sweet Hermano Silva:
Ilan suggested I draw “Pig Island”, as described in the song by Sandra Boynton, performed by Scott Bakula(!) – my new favourite song ever …
Tomorrow! TURRET AND SNOUT

A wee wild piggy stumbles upon a strange object in the forest. Find out what happens next!
Dahlewitz trip
So Ilan actually seems to agree that getting a house outside the city could be a good idea. (Maybe he’s gotten nervous about my fantasies of refurbishing a construction trailer, like the one in the photo above …?)
We went to look at this fantastic old house today. It’s in pretty bad shape, and, most importantly, it is way too huge for us, so we aren’t going to buy it, after all … But it was fun to visit it nevertheless.
PIGGELPIXIE

Ilan requested an 8-bit piggie for some project. He might animate it, maybe make the cheek blush patterns alternate and the eyebrows and snout move.
Actually he will use it as one of many visuals on Friday night at Tresor during the Visual Berlin Festival, doing visuals for Stu. As Ilan was preparing for this gig and listening to Stu’s music, he thought one of the songs definitely had piggy noises in it …
New fabric design: МОЛОКО
A fabric with those classic Soviet sweetened condensed milk cans. It’s the best thing to eat with pancakes.
This is the first Spoonflower fabric I have made that has really good blue colours.
Here you can order it on Spoonflower – the colours don’t look so good on their site, but they print pretty much like in the photo above (depending on screen calibration). Order a test swatch first if you want to be sure.
Here is the original can on which I based the design (the light blue is a bit off in this photo):

It’s a bit rusty because it has been standing for many years in my bathroom, holding q-tips.
By the way, this classic 1960’s Soviet design is not copyright or trademark protected, and is freely replicated by hundreds of companies in many different countries that make this type of condensed milk. Basically it wouldn’t be condensed milk if the can didn’t have this design. :o)
RUSSIAN NAMES

Last night I had a dream that Ainur and I were at some kind of citadel or castle during some war. The citadel came under attack, and the two of us decided to flee. Outside the walls there was a little pen with four pigs and some piglets, who we had been taking care of. Of course we couldn’t leave the piggies behind! One of the piggies, whose name was Severiina, was lame in her hind legs, so we hoisted her on a little cart. The other ones we put on leashes hastily made with strings, and then we ran off into the forests with the piggies …
When I woke up I was distressed that we didn’t put enough straw in Severiina’s cart so she would be comfortable on the long, bumpy ride. ;_;
I made a Little Internationalist PDF Zine of Leftist Adventure Comics
I recently discovered zinelibrary.info, an Open Publishing library of zines in PDF form, to be printed at home into your own paper zines. The leaning of the site is mostly Anarchist, so there is a lot of interesting stuff there. Of course a lot of crap, too, but that’s the beauty of such a library. Anyone can contribute and anyone can read. The only rule is: “We reject zines that promote hierarchical, authoritarian and exploitative human relations.” Aww.

So I made a little 15 page PDF zine with a couple of Driftwood short stories to contribute to the zinelibrary. They are all previously published on the Internet, but maybe they will bring joy to a few more people now …
Most of the other zines in the library are made to be printed and folded into A5 zines, but since I somehow doubt that most people actually print them, but rather read them on the screen (at least I do), I formatted my zine to be potentially printed on standard paper and tacked together on one side. That way it’s much easier to read on the computer. I also used low resolution images so even modem users can download it. It doesn’t look that terrible if you print it on a home printer, anyway.
Here is the comics section of zinelibrary.info.
There is a sad piggy comic too. ;_;

New fabrics from TungusTkan’
Eggplant is the new colour scheme for the Eva fabric. I reconstructed the design after having lost it when my computer fell in a coma.
The puppachutes and flying piggies from my video collaboration with Ilan were too good to not make into a fabric.
The pastoral piggy toile that I made for a weekly Spoonflower contest is now available for purchase.
This design in three different colours is based on Scythian petroglyphs of wild boars at the kurgan in Arzhan, Tuva, Russian Federation, dating from the 8th to 6th century B.C.
For an overview of all the TungusTkan’ fabrics so far, you can visit my Spoonflower profile or the Loot page.
